How to export a motorcycle route to GPX

Choose the file before you export

Start with the destination. A GPX-capable tool usually needs route points or a track. Another Strada user benefits from the route title, notes, and ordered stops in a native file. Restoring your own library is a different task again.

• GPX: cached track geometry when available; otherwise a route with named waypoints.
• .strada: use when another Strada user needs an editable copy of the planned route.
• .stradabackup: use for a broader local backup of Strada data.
• iCloud/CloudKit: use for supported app-data sync across your own Apple environment, not multiuser collaboration.

Prepare the route geometry

Review the route and its stop order before exporting. When Strada has cached geometry from computed MapKit legs, the GPX contains a track for that road line. Without cached geometry, it contains a route with named waypoints. The exporter never puts both representations in the same file.

If a cached leg could not be calculated, the track bridges that section with a straight line between the two stops. Return to route planning, inspect the preview, and resolve any ambiguous or missing stop before sharing the file.

Export and verify the receiving tool

Open the planned route in Strada and use its export action to create the selected file. Choose the destination yourself through the system share sheet or file workflow.

A receiving app may interpret GPX routes and tracks differently. After import, verify the stop order or road line there rather than assuming every app will reconstruct the route identically.

Use .strada for an editable handoff

The .strada format carries a versioned JSON representation of the title, notes, and ordered stops. Importing it creates a new draft with fresh identifiers so the recipient can edit the route without altering the original file.

Completed state and ride memories are not preserved by this route-sharing import. Use it for the plan, not as a full archive of the ride history.

Understand the current import limit

Strada exports GPX but does not currently import GPX files. Do not use GPX as the only method for moving an editable route back into Strada.

For a Strada-to-Strada transfer, choose .strada. For your broader local data, keep the dedicated backup. Clear file names that include the route and date make either format easier to recognize later.

GPX import is not part of the current app.
