How to plan a multi-stop motorcycle route
A practical workflow for turning a list of roads, passes, towns, and stops into an ordered ride you can still change before departure.
A good motorcycle route is more than a start and a destination. The useful decisions happen between them: which roads matter, where you want to stop, and what you need to remember when the day is underway. Strada keeps those decisions in an editable plan and leaves turn-by-turn navigation to the map app you already use.
Start with the fixed points
Add the places that define the ride before filling in every possible bend. A meeting point, lunch stop, fuel stop, mountain pass, and final destination usually provide enough structure for a first draft.
Strada searches MapKit for places, addresses, localities, and points of interest. Give each important stop a clear name and add a note when the reason for stopping will not be obvious later.
- Start and finish points that match the actual day.
- Stops with a purpose: fuel, food, viewpoint, meeting point, or overnight stay.
- Notes for opening hours, rendezvous details, or decisions to make on the road.
Use waypoints to express your road choice
A routing engine may choose a fast road that is not the road you intended to ride. Add intermediate stops at the places that force the route through the corridor you chose, then reorder them until the sequence reads naturally.
Use enough waypoints to make the plan unambiguous, but avoid turning every junction into a stop. Long stop lists are harder to scan and every navigation app has its own waypoint limits.
Check the route before you hand it off
Once an itinerary with at least two stops is saved, Strada can compute road legs with MapKit and show a route preview, distance, and estimated ride time. Treat those figures as planning aids, not guarantees.
Look for an unexpected motorway section, a large detour, or a leg that failed to calculate. Road closures, surface conditions, local restrictions, weather, and motorcycle suitability still need a separate check close to departure.
Strada currently uses Apple MapKit automobile directions. It does not automatically optimize stop order or promise motorcycle-specific or scenic routing.
Choose the handoff that fits the moment
Save the route as a draft while it is still changing. When it is time to ride, you can open one stop, the full supported route, a custom subset, or use progressive mode to include every planned stop before a chosen destination. From-here mode is separate and starts around a nearby planned stop.
Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze calculate navigation after the handoff and may choose a different road line. Confirm the destination and waypoint order in the navigation app before moving.
Keep the plan useful after the ride
When the day is over, mark the itinerary complete instead of overwriting the original plan. Add a rating and notes about the roads that worked, the stops you would change, and any seasonal detail worth remembering.
If the route deserves another run, duplicate the completed ride into a fresh draft. The next version starts with evidence from the road instead of memory alone.
